Business 250 - Reflections

Lesson 12 - Social Media This is a hard topic for me. My husband is the artist and does not like social media. He needs to realize how important and beneficial social media can be for his business. I plan to use Instagram and LinkedIn. Instagram is what the majority of artists use. He can update it really easy and get a lot of followers. It will be a good tool to even sell his book on if we want. He can develop relationships with people and keep a good connection with them. LinkedIn is more professional and I think I will be able to get him on board.

This week we addressed the landing page and how we can make it more inviting. I need to  improve my landing page quite a bit. I need to add more information about the book on the home page. I also need to make sure that all the images on my site have a name that is searchable. I need to find ways to update my site often. It needs to be fresh so that visitors will come back often.

Well this has been quite the week. It was my last week at my current job. I had to spend most of the week training a new employee. I start my new  job at BYUI on Monday. My evenings were full of church assignments. The first half of the week I did not get the assignment done. It was on conversion. I plan to start that tonight. I finished Project 3 and was surprised that my website has some visitors. One Ad is doing OK and the other ad is not doing good at all. I plan to revise the ads and hope for a better response. I am not making any changes to my keywords until mid next week. I want to watch it for a little longer before I change anything.

This week has been difficult. We were to try and figure out our quality score. It took me forever to get to the screen that shows it. Once I figured it out, I was able to start the process. However, it didn't give me a quality score before the deadline. My suggestion for this online class would be to break this up into two weeks. Make sure the students set up their accounts a week before so the quality score will generate. We learned about google analytics. This will be a great tool for my business. I was able to set it up and can now tract the activity of the people who visit my site.

This week we created an ad to use in Google Adwords. I was happy with the one I created. I feel that it grabs the attention of the reader and it also has a call to action. My website is coming along. I was docked on my grade because I did not have a paypal link. I actually had the link in my website for about 2 weeks. I took it out a couple days ago because I am going to be selling the book through blurb.com. Bro. Luke looked at the website right after I took out the link. I am still working on the blurb link because it isn't working right. I still have a lot of images to add to the site as well as making it more attractive.

Week 7 This week we learned about creating an Adwords campaign. I have to be honest, this is very confusing for me. I am also very leary about using google adwords for my particular website. I don't intend for this website to generate a lot of income. My main purpose of my site is to attract visitors to my husband's website and to sell his textbook. His textbook can benefit people other than byui students, so eventually people may buy his book that aren't students at byui. We also learned a lot about how to choose our keywords. This lesson was very beneficial because I now realize how important it is to choose the right words or phrases. I am still working on my website. I thought using a "drag and drop" builder would be helpful, but I find that it is a lot of work to learn the program. I also realize that I am not that good at designing. I want it to look  a certain way but am having problems getting it to look the way I want.
